[Below was an original mission statement of sorts, which kicked off nine months of incessant posting ...]

Sure as everything of note is bound to be blogged, rest assured there will be somebody else to blog about that blogging.

You may have heard some of the lines: “News is a conversation.”“Information wants to be free.”“We are all journalists now.” But how does all that virtual chatter reflect back upon our physical space? People whose connection is primarily online will meet up in the flesh, and those discussions are dominated by referencing links, discussing rants or revelations that were posted, and trading technical insights into how they managed to access all of that stuff.

Paved acts as the gateway to such dialogue as it flourishes in the GTA, by covering news, arts and events, and highlighting the personalities and perspectives beyond what translates in print.

That means collecting links from everywhere, reports and reactions from readers, and rounding up the best (and worst) of local weblogs in a digestible format where irreverent observations are accompanied by the occasional insight. Paved is a starting point for the GTA’s online life, and a detour in the process of finding out.

Marc Weisblott, obsessed with the practice of online journalism since its invention – in addition to a varied background in Toronto print and broadcast media – is Paved’s resident blaugerista.

Paved is produced weekdays in conjunction with the Toronto Star, whose staff and resources provide ongoing support to the venture.
